ANNA DONOVAN

I work as a ceramics and mixed media artist with a studio in Conway Mill, Belfast, Northern Ireland. My work ranges from figurative sculpture to jewellery with pots in between.

The human figure is the base form from which my pieces evolve and I see it being so for the foreseeable future as I have many ideas waiting to be explored.

There are many influences on my work, including but not limited to natural erosion/corrosion, religious symbolism, renaissance, folk lore, mythology, horror, theatre and the weird and wonderful children TV shows of the 70's.

I mainly use stoneware and porcelain slip, sometimes adding found objects and other materials to the fired piece. These could be rusty metal, nails, parts of toys or dolls, brush bristles or wires scavenged from broken electronics.
